On 22 June, President Trump issued a proclamation in response to the pandemic's economic impact and in line with the administration's hiring American policies that suspend the entry of new H-1B, L-1, J-1 and H-2B nonimmigrants, and their spouses and children, with limited exceptions. The proclamation also extends the existing suspension of entries of certain immigrants. The proclamation took effect on 24 June and will expire on 31 December 2020. Beyond the restrictions on entries, it also orders the Department of Homeland Security to issue regulations that may make it more difficult for H-1Bs or EB-2 and EB-3 green card categories to be sponsored by an employer.
